Monday Women is an informal arrangement whereby for several years now, on the first Monday of the month, women in Liverpool have met to share news, views and friendship. There is a Monday Women email group with the same rationale [join here], which also enables women who cannot attend meetings nonetheless to be involved. Monday Women discuss a wide range of topics, amongst these many of the acknowledged issues facing women today (see also Gender & Women on this website).
The most important aspect of Monday Women 'membership' is that each woman is involved on her own terms and simply as herself.
Monday Women (Liverpool) has been going for more than five years now, so it was really encouraging to see such a good turn out for the first meeting of Autumn '08. After some great times at El Rincon (thanks for the warm welcome and hospitality, Francisco and co!) the Monday Women group is delighted to be returning to Chumki Banerjee's Heart & Soul Bistro in Liverpool's city centre. One of Liverpool's most significant and fascinating historic areas is barely known even by the city's own residents; so Monday Women arranged a visit. The area lies in the heart of Toxteth - Dingle, comprising four adjacent sites: the early seventeenth century Ancient Chapel of Toxteth (the original place of worship of astronomer Jeremiah Horrox or Horrocks), the Turner Nursing Home built by Alfred Waterhouse in 1882-5, Dingle Overhead Railway Station, constructed deep underground and opened in 1896, and the Dingle Gaumont Cinema, erected on the site of the old Picturedrome in 1937. ...
